An homage to the rusted tin roofs of Epirus. The project draws an analogy to the timeless and universal typology of the market — an urban fact. Though an object in itself, its internal and peripheral stoas make it a porous public building, one that diverts attention from itself to everything that surrounds it: the Ottoman structures on one side and the ground-floor shops on the other. The market’s semicircular edge opens toward the pedestrian street and the church of Agia Marina. A grand urban stair, marked by a vertical element echoing the neighboring polykatoikias, connects the upper city center with the lower public space of the market.
